GENUINENESS IN FAMILY WORSHIP REQUIRED

"But the time approaches, indeed it is already here, when those who are real worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth." John 4:23, N.E.B.

Your children will surely be blessed by family worship, provided they see that you are really in earnest. Add the essential thing to your family worship, a life in accordance with the worship that you offer unto God. Be not one kind of person before the family altar and another in the world. Be truly the same Christian at all times. Let your every day be a living commentary upon what you have read and prayed together in the hour of devotion.

If you wish to erect an altar unto the Lord in your house, you must, first of all, erect one in your own heart. You are to be the temple of God. God's Spirit is to dwell within you. So long as there is no altar erected to God in your heart there can be none in your home.

There is one great key that unlocks the secret of family communion with God: a love and loyalty to God and to one another that stands squarely at the heart of all our activities inside and outside the home. Then our family meeting with God each morning makes possible Christ's meeting with us at every turn of the road for the rest of the day.

The voice of God must come into our lives, not just the echo of our own voices. Multitudes arise each day to eat, to go to the office and to work, return to watch the television or go to the sports arena. The next day and the next day they do about the same thing. Does anybody know what it is all about? The issue is that the living God must be written into our life-style.

We are to take all the individual and family problems and talk together with God present. A home is Christian when its members refuse to take things into their own hands only. Family worship means laying things in God's hands. It brings us where God can guide us because we want to know God's will. "I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them" (Matt. 18:19, 20).
