Witnesses Unto Me | JUNE 20 |
WITNESSES UNTO CHRIST Ye shall be witnesses unto me. Acts 1:8. Christ's life was one of incomparable beauty, righteousness, and love for sinners. He is the greatest man the world has ever known. the lives of other men have left impressions and memories for a short lime. In the end they are forgotten. But not so with Jesus Christ. His command to His disciples to be His witnesses is just as meaningful and urgent as when He gave it. The world cries out for divine realities. The divine command to witness presses upon every situation in which we find ourselves. If we want to make our years count, we must witness. "According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Phil. 1:20, 21). Paul wrote these words while in prison. His witness to Christ was crowned with abundant success before the eyes of all throughout the universe. The commission to witness never faded from his mind. We too are to maintain our testimony to Jesus by word and action. We are to witness to Christ as truth, to the Word of God as truth. Opinion is one thing, truth is another. Our views, opinions, reasonings, may capture people's interest for a while. But the Christian faith is on a far different footing. The Christian faith, whatever else it is, is not a selfish religion. He who is ready to falter at any moment in the cause of the third angel's message does not know what following Christ means. Witnessing to Christ often seems unacknowledged and unrequited, but it spells loyalty to the divine mission of our Lord and Saviour, and that pays all we need by way of reward. You might aspire to be the best sportsman, the best salesman. You might rise to eminence in your profession. As a man's vision so shall his life be. Now recall the day when Christ came to your heart. You saw His sacrifice for you, His character, His purity, His righteousness. Do not let time or temptation deface your devotion. Do not allow the radiance of your witness to fade away. |
