Love in Our Hearts | MAY 1 |
SECURITY IN GOD'S LOVE For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel .... For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee .... For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed. Isa. 54:5-10. God binds Himself to us by the contract of love. When we marry we take our vows to keep our promises, to love forever, until death do us part. Similarly, God binds Himself to us. It is not possible for God to go back on His pledge to love us with an everlasting love. God so loves us as to give us not only a second chance but many chances. God never misses an opportunity to bestow His love and grace upon us. At times it may seem that our sins have separated us from Him. We are not worthy of such a love as this. Our hearts condemn us. Our minds are darkened by transgression. We are sure that God has left us. We have forsaken Him from time to time. Why should He not forsake us? But God is our Father. He seeks in every way to correct our errors, to recover us to obedience and to righteousness. No one can ever pluck us from the heart of God except we ourselves. God continually yearns over us. He seeks us. Why hesitate to return to Him at any time? Are we worse than Peter who denied his Lord? Are we worse than the thief on the cross? Are we more of a rebel than Paul the apostle, who had persecuted the church? Are our lives darker and more burdened with sin than the children of Israel, slaves in Egypt, for whom He wrought miracles of deliverance? The love of God is never exhausted. It is an inexhaustible fountain that flows on forever. Thousands, millions upon millions, probably billions throughout the universe, drink of it, live by it. It is a living stream from the heart of God. Remember that the love of Christ for you is the love that caresses a little child, the love that lays hands on a leper, the love that leads a blind man back to sight, the love that accepts a harlot who weeps at His feet, that sits at meat with publicans and sinners, that forgives the thief on the cross. Such love is ours through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
