IN TOUCH WITH GOD    by Edward Heppenstall

Love in Our Hearts MAY 25

FILLED WITH THE FULLNESS OF GOD

To know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Eph. 3:19, 20.

The gift of Christ in His fullness contains the secret that distinguishes it from all other religions. No other religious leaders in the history of the world have ever had a perfect righteousness to offer to sinful men, let alone the unsearchable riches of heaven. They have no inexhaustible wealth to give away. They are sinful men like ourselves. They can make no offer to make us rich.

The apostle Paul puts it this way: "Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ" (Eph. 3:8). These are riches that cannot be counted. No amount of extravagance can exhaust them. No length of time can count their value. The riches of Christ are boundless, immeasurable, inexhaustible.

Christ in us is the fullness of wisdom, the perfect righteousness, the fullness of all truth. Everything man needs, comes to us in Him. Christ is a great treasure mine containing all the wealth of heaven. When we accept Christ, we have all this too. "And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace" (John 1:16).

Faith is the means by which all His wealth becomes ours. Faith, that word so easily used and casually referred to. That word which is always on our lips and always in our ears. Some of us have lost the very reality of it by reason of having heard it so often—that simple act of trust and commitment to Christ, in whom are hid all the treasures of heaven as in a boundless mine of wealth. He unites us with Himself. His wealth passes over into our lives. We are joined to the wealthiest Person in the universe.

When I dilate my lungs, the air comes in; when I open my eyes, the light comes in. When I open my heart, Christ comes in. When I trust Him, He pours His life and riches into my life. When I stretch out my hand to Him He fills it with the blessings of heaven.
