IN TOUCH WITH GOD    by Edward Heppenstall

Triumph in Christ DECEMBER 29

ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

As for man, his days are as grass. . . . But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. Ps. 103:1517.

So little time—yet time to wait upon the Lord and renew our strength. So little time, but enough to live courageously for Christ. So little time, but enough to sit at the feet of truth. So little time, but enough to keep company with the mighty men of God in the Bible. So little time, but enough to know Jesus Christ. So little time, but enough to prepare ourselves for eternity.

How do we measure time? The psalmist said that the days of our age are "three score years and ten." That can be a liberal estimate. Suppose you live until you are 70. At that rate you who are 20 years of age have 18,250 days left; you of 25 have 16,425; you of 30, 14,600 days. You of 40, 10,950 days. That is your capital to which you cannot add. It draws no interest. You live on the principal. If you had $20,000 you might think it a goodly sum, but if you could add nothing to it and must live on the principal, it would not last long.

"Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth . . . but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment" (Eccl. 11:9). Youth is the foundation of manhood. It will never come back to its. We can never be in this world what we might have been if we have wasted our youthful energy.

God's purpose for every young man and woman is to "rejoice in thy youth." To be able to do this you need, first, a healthy body. One of the great blessings God gives us is health and the way to keep it. Whatever helps to make you clean in body, temperate in habits, orderly in life, rejoice in it.

The second essential is a happy home. When Christian love and goodness prevail in the home, every member is strengthened to face the battles and temptations he meets in the world outside. One does not easily betray the love found in a Christian home. The third essential is a heart right with God, trusting in His merits, sanctified by His grace, fulfilled by His love.

We all have time enough for these things. Rejoice in the work of God. Rejoice that we live for Christ and our fellow men. Rejoice in the truth that makes us free. Rejoice in the love of Christ, in the love of all others when bear His image.
